An open letter to Brownsville natives

The sixteenth most populous city in America

The House on Taylor

Breaking down

Full of memories

Forever downtown

It’s very common to inherit hand-me-downs in the Mexican/American culture especially in the border town I live in. We’re not exposed to high fashion but the cost is equivalent to your social status. You don’t have to agree with me on this one, but the more popular you are, the more you try to please others with your look and stats. Just remember where you came from or where you are now. The Valley. Forget your social status. 1st, 2nd or 3rd, it doesn’t matter! Fashion is fashion. Take it from me, the dude who wears nothing but hand-me-downs and goes dumpster diving every weekend. I’ve learned to make something out of absolutely nothing.

If you’re wondering what the House on Taylor is, it’s the location I shot these photos at. It’s also the house my dad’s side of the family grew up in. Houses like this are what make downtown Brownsville beautiful! It brings us back to our roots. It’s no longer about searching for nicer things, its about REVITALIZING what you already have.

All that glitters is not gold.
